4 PM Procession begins 1 mile loop through Lopez Village

5 PM-8 PM Volunteer Appreciation Ceremony, music by Tres Hermanos, food and dancing

April 18th-24th 3-8PM at the Lopez School Art Room

Supplies available for paper mache, masks, painting, flags, and more!

More about the Procession:

To participate in the Procession, create a costume or display of a species, any species real or mythical. Be creative and artistic!

Three rules to inspire, nourish, and protect the Procession's cultural evolution of imagination, creation, and sharing.

No written words • No pets • No motorized vehicles

The Procession of the Species Celebration began in Olympia, WA 17 years ago. The founders have encouraged the spread to other communities. Find out more on their website http://www.procession.org/

More about volunteerism:

The Volunteer Appreciation Gathering is to honor ALL community volunteers, for ALL types of service

We are working to document an estimated number of volunteer hours in a year on Lopez Island. We are asking groups and organizations (official and unofficial) to send a group name, estimated # of volunteer hours in a year, contact info, and a brief description of your mission/ work. We hope to share this information in a display, so please indicate if you would like to remain anonymous. Please send your info by April 20th to lopezvolunteer@gmail.com.

The Presidential and Congressional Service awards are a great way to track your volunteer hours and be federally recognized for service. To get started, register online at http://www.presidentialserviceawards.gov/ and log your hours. Notify a certify organization (LICC) to submit your hours at the end of a one year period. By next year, you could receive an award! This year, one high school senior will receive a Presidential Service Award at the ceremony, and we would like to see this number grow!

Event sponsored by the Lopez Island Prevention Coalition and Conservation Corps.
